Karma Cartel Malayalam Movie Review

Karma Cartel is a VVS movie on all counts. So now you must be wondering what I meant by VVS. VERY VERY SPECIAL in the way a new treatment has been given to Malayalam Cinema. All credits to Vinod Bharatan, the director of Karma Cartel and his whole team in trying the avant-garde style of film making where a realistic approach is adopted on an experimental basis. And they have come out with flying colours to put forth a socially relevant them quite convincingly.
The film begins from a reporter who is in search of a missing actor named Sidh portrayed by Vinay Fort. This search lead to some incidents and bring some other people into the picture who are directly or indirectly connected with the main plot. Shortcut to money without hardwork among the youth is a growing trend these days and the film try to put forward this in a realistic manner.
Karma Cartel is the third of the Karma series from the director, the previous two films being short films. The beauty of the film is definitely the treatment which cannot be expressed in a few words. It is to be enjoyed on screen which is a first of a kind in Indian Cinema if my information is correct.
So you can see for yourself how the camera moves and how the picture is captured which is totally different from the conventional style of Cinematography. Same is the case with editing and how the film is narrated.
If you are to talk about the performances, then it needs some writing. There is a long line up of actors appearing in small but pivotal roles and each of them have made it memorable. Also the way they performed made it look so easy on screen but there will be hardwork and efforts to come up with such fine performances.
Vinay Fort as the struggling actor Sidh was a perfect cast for that role. The guy who impressed me most was Jinu Jacob as an Indy (Independent) film maker. The uncut scene that runs close to five minutes culminating with the half way mark, guys this man was brilliant in this shot. Luttu and Plan B portrayed by Sabumon and Shani Shaki were natural and evoked good laughs. The character of Deejay Fixer, the girl dating Arjun, Roopesh KV as Dr Rupesh were all had small roles but looked perfect for those characters on screen.
Premam fame Davis Manjilla (father of Mary) as ex-gangster Franco is another notable actor who could make his presence felt even if it was too brief. All the tensions that are normally seen in people facing financial problems were there on the face of Dr.Roy acted out by Rony David Raj. I might have missed a few to mention since the line up is too long.
Now to the best part of the film where a spoof is made on the current trend of social media reviews of films and the ratings put by online reviewers. As per what is shown in the film, a rating of 2.5 and 3.5 is the normal practice and it is rare and a difficulty to get 4 and 4 plus. Being a small time reviewer myself, enjoyed this part very much.
But I am going to prove them a thing wrong. Four is a rarity, says Luttu to Plan B but I am going to give four out of five for Karma Cartel, a movie that you should experience yourself if you love an experimental film and that too a first of a kind for Malayalam audience.
I am a few who is lucky enough to watch the film released in India under the PVR Director's Rare. If you get a chance, don't miss it.

Mission Impossible :Rogue Nation Review

He is back with the fifth installment of the Mission Impossible franchise. Tom Cruise return is spectacular fashion in MI 5 : Rogue Nation. Though he is fifty three years old,he still has it in him to continue the series.
The film is what we all expect from a Mission Impossible franchise. So what we have experienced in all the previous four parts, you can expect the same level of entertainment and enjoyment in the form of action, chases, suspense and of course gadgets. The best part is of course Tom Cruise as Ethen Hunt, the agent of IMF (Impossible Mission Force) as the guy shows the same level of intensity and energy that we saw him in the very first part of MI series.
The plot continue from Ghost Protocol where the CIA led by its chief is desperate to disband the IMF accusing them of irresponsibility in their operations. A senate is held to discuss whether IMF needs to be carried forward. Now it is upto Hunt and his small team to prove CIA that their perceptions about IMF are wrong. Rest of story focus on Ethen Hunt and his team to establish the presence of a bigger and deadly organisation called the Syndicate in the terrror network.
Directed by Christopher McQuairre, the film as I said has everything one would expect from the franchise. Humour and witty dialogues also plays a big part and even the final moments after the climax has some amount of jokes to make us laugh.
Couple of twist is added to make things more exciting and suspense is maintained especially in some of the characters and the way there presence in some critical junctures of the movie are shown. All credits to some fine writing and of course good direction.
The film begins from an edge of the seat plane ride for Ethen where Tom Cruise has himself performed this stunt without any use of CGI and dupe is worth mentioning. Bike chase towards the latter part of the movie is another action packed moment to make us pumped up.
Cannot imagine another actor now in the shoes of Ethen Hunt. Tom Cruise is at his best even though age is fast catching up with him. Rebecca Fergusson impressed very much. Be it action, beauty and even in those sexy shots with her charm and looks. Simon Pegg was humorous. Jeremy Renner and rest of the crew were also fine in their respective roles. The villain in my view was not that menacing and a match for Ethen.
So, the film provide the right dose of thrill with every element a MI follower would want. Aided by a fast and engaging screenplay, Mission Impossible :Rogue Nation is the perfect choice for your weekend entertainment. I am going with four out of five for MI 5.

Dilli Wali Thakur Gurls : Sunaina's cruel move in

&TV’s Dilli Wali Thakur Gurls (Cinevistaas) is gearing up for a major highpoint wherein protagonist Dylan (Aamir Ali) will land into a big trouble.

As per the ongoing track, Dylan is planning to bring fore Sunaina’s (Poonam Preet) real identity. However she had been unaware about his strategy and trying to come close to him.

A source shared, “But soon Sunaina will get to know about Dylan’s plans and decide to turn the tables around. She will lie to Dylan that Dabbu (Sukirti Kandpal) has been kidnapped and call him at a farway place.”

Hearing the news Dylan will rush to rescue Dabbu. However after reaching the isolated place Dylan will be shocked as it would be Sunaina’s plan to trap him. And once there, she would ask her goons to beat up Dylan.

Who will come to his rescue? Will Sunaina’s real identity be revealed?

Annuraag Sharrma : all set to make his big screen debut with a Marathi film.

The talented and good looking Annuraag Sharrma has definitely wowed us with his acts in multiple TV shows is all set to make his big screen debut with a Marathi film.

The movie titled 3:56 Kilaari is a suspense thriller about a kid who falls prey to a tragic incident. Annuraag who plays the cop in the film will be the prime investigation officer. Also starring along with him would be Jackie Shroff and Sai Tamhankar.

Talking about the movie, Annuraag shared, “It is an amazing concept and I am really excited on the same. When I got the offer, I was really impressed with the story and cast and decided to plunge into it. Apart from Jackie and Sai, Mahesh Manjerakar’s daughter plays the kid. It is a great team and a very entertaining movie.”

The actor who will also be seen in the upcoming flick DNA of Love also added, “There are so many movies made but hardly some get to see the light of day. It is a happy and proud moment for me to finally see myself on the big screen. It is all thanks to the blessing of god that I have achieved this mark. Now hope to make it big in the world of Bollywood also.”

Though Annuraag made it clear that he is not quitting TV, “I am busy with the three shows and happily jostling with the projects. Hopefully there will be more shows in the line.”

Rajan Shahi's popular show Tere Sheher Mein is all set to bring forth another high point in its upcoming track.

We heard that, now the Chaubey family will soon be facing tough times as Ramashrey's (Rafi Malik) mother (Sapna Sand) is all set to take revenge from them.

Our source informs us, "In the upcoming tracks of the show, Ramashrey's mother will enter the Haveli to take revenge from the Chaubey family because Rudra (Aarya DharmChand Kumar) had beaten up Ramashrey because of that he was admitted in the hospital in a critical condition. Now, she will enter the haveli and she will try to kill Gajanan Chaubey (S M Zaheer) to take revenge."

Will she succeed in killing Gajanan? The upcoming tracks of the show will unearth the answer to this question.

'Manmarziyan' : wraps up in four months

TV show 'Manmarziyan', which launched in April this year, is set to wrap up by the end of this month. Despite being appreciated for the content and its production quality, it failed to generate sustainable ratings. The channel has decided to pull the plug on it after a four-month run.

A source says, “It was an experiment, which failed to strike a chord with the audience and hence, the decision.”

Movie Review : Jaanisaar

Inspired by true events, the narration rolls off with a voice-over that gives an insight into events that occurred on precise dates and gradually settles circa 1876.

Raja Ameer Haider (Imran Abbas) who was orphaned at a young age, has just returned from England after being groomed like the English, as instructed by Queen Victoria. He is under the care of Cavendish, the commissioner of Awadh, with strict instructions to ensure that, "the boy does not stray from the path of loyalty".

But fate seems to have other plans for him. Royalty in Awadh meant, "Nawabi shauk" (ways of the Nawabs) visiting nautch girls at 'kothas' (brothel). It is at Mustarijaan's 'kotha' that he meets Noor (Pernia Qureshi) - a courtesan, who reveals to him the plight of the land and tells him that "since he is the Raja of the place, he is responsible for his subjects' plight".

Their romance, fraught with local politics and misunderstandings, is soon relegated to the background. The freedom struggle, led by Meer Moshin Ali (Muzaffar Ali), a loyal surviving soldier of Begum Hasrat, Ameer's mother, takes centrestage.

Muzaffar Ali, who had earlier delivered the classic "Umrao Jaan" featuring Rekha, seems to have lost his Midas touch. The story and screenplay of "Jaanisaar" is weak and lacks focus. The romance between the characters is not strongly established and the track strays from romance to a patriotic theme, absurdly.

The character graphs are not well etched, especially those of Noor and Meer. Neither does it explain why or how Noor becomes a revolutionary, nor does it delve into Meer's psyche.

Ali's direction is tacky in certain scenes, which gives the film an amateurish and staged feel. The narration meanders at a sluggish pace in the first half with generic, shallow dialogues and fake laughter, 'adab' and 'tehzeeb'. Also, the hurriedly wrapped up second act gives an incomplete justification to the revolutionary planning.

The performance of most of the actors is perfunctory, pretentious and theatrical. The actors seem to be devoid of energy, making them seem like tired souls.

The background score and songs are used effectively, but the dances lack the intensity to make the film iconic.

Visually, the film is atmospheric, with good production quality. The production team have taken pains in the detailing. This period drama is aesthetically captured by cinematographer Gianni Giannelli.

His frames of the majestic palaces, the doves, the regal sheer curtains, the 'mujras' and the opulence of the period, is well captured in sepia tones. With ample dissolves, these frames are smoothly edited by Sankalp Meshram to recreate a bygone era.

Overall, this film creates a beautiful visual sans a strong storyline.

Movie Review : Bangistan

What should one say about bad movies? Well if they are only bad you could just say it was bad. But what if it is fifty layers below a bad movie. One would fall short of words like I have after watching Karan Anshuman's Bangistan. This one surely creates its own niche of bad films. Incidentally Karan was a critic himself earlier. Well watching what other critics would write about his movie would surely break his heart. But the director has to be appreciated for pulling a one line story to a little more than two hours. Commendable.. *slow claps*

The story of the film revolves around two youngsters who are fanatics of their religion in a made up country called Bangistan.

Riteish Deshmukh is the only tolerable and the worth watching element in the movie. He plays a Muslim guy who disguises to be a Hindu. The one star in the ratings goes only to Riteish and that too only for his performance in the second half. But the bigger question still remains as to why he agreed to work in a film like this.

Pulkit Samrat plays the role of a Hindu and portrays to be a Muslim. For most parts of the movie Pulkit's is only screaming at the top of his voice and eventually Riteish himself tells Pulkit that he is a bad actor (this was the only time when the audience laughed).

Jacqueline Fernandes does what she is best at, doing nothing onscreen and dancing in one song. Her character is not even developed and thus is pretty much wasted in the film.

What was supposed to be a satire is nothing but a painful experience to your eyes and brain. There are no tracks that are worth humming. Only Saturday night full tight is a track that would be heard at night clubs.

All in all Bangistan could be given a miss at least at the theatre. Not even if you are a diehard fan of Riteish Deshmukh. This one could be one decision you would regret taking. Well just saying..

Sasha nisar and sneha look at abeer, abeer asks what why are u guys starring and i felt bad for mehar and i know i crossed the line, sasha says let me tell u one thing u are falling for mehar, abeer says what. Diya Aur Baati Hum 8th August 2015 Written Episode

The Episode starts with pandit saying about 15th August mahurat, and no date in next six months. Bhabho finalizes it. Lokesh says it will be very soon. Bhabho says we want to make Lalima our bahu soon. Lokesh says he wants to make Sooraj have sweets and meet him. Bhabho is about to make excuse. Sooraj calls out Ved asking for keys. Lokesh goes. Bhabho and everyone worry that Lokesh will see Sooraj’s truth. Sooraj is talking to Sandhya being alone and says he will show the items to Bhabho.
Lokesh comes and says congrats for the marriage Jija ji. Sooraj says jija ji? ?Bhabho says yes, this is Lokesh, you met him before. Sooraj says yes, I had sweets of his shop. Lokesh makes him have sweets and says the mahurat is 15th August 2015. Sooraj says yes, and asks Bhabho about Sandhya. Bhabho lies to cover up. Bhabho takes Lokesh and gives shagun. Ved sees them and cries. Bhabho tries to hide Sooraj’s truth and talks to Lokesh. Emily cries.
Sandhya is sad and thinks of Sooraj. She comes to the market with Sajni and sees Bharat. She thinks Bharat here, it means he has come to give any info. She says she will buy bangles and goes to Bharat. He says he has given the message at her home. And gives some chit to her. She reads about Chandu going for some meeting on 15th August, she has to find about the meeting and get info about it. Sandhya buys bangles and thinks to ask Sajni who is going there to city. Sajni says no one is going from their village, its just their hero Shekhar, he goes there for play. Sandhya gets shocked and thinks Chandu is very smart to use simple Shekhar for his motives.
Sooraj and Bhabho are on the way. Bhabho thinks everything will be fine once Lalima marries Sooraj and prays for the marriage to happen peacefully. Lalima is at the tailor’s shop and Sooraj sees her. He thinks its Sandhya and Bhabho tries stopping him. She runs after him to stop him. Sooraj says Sandhya and runs to Lalima. Lalima leaves. Sooraj looks on. Bhabho gets him and says maybe he has seen someone else. He says I have seen Sandhya’s dress, my Sandhya was here. The man says he does not know.
Bhabho asks him to come and takes him in the car. Lalima comes after changing the dress and asks the tailor to alter the dress, as its her marriage on 15th August. Sandhya thinks Shekhar does not know how Chandu will use him, how to find out what will Garjana do, shall I ask Shekhar about his relation with Garjana.
She goes to Shekhar and says Sajni told me you are going to city, I want some medicine, will you get it. He says yes. She says you will like to work and see places. He says yes, person should do work which e likes. She asks is Garjana not doing anything on 15th Aug. He looks at her.

The Episode starts with Arjun asking Nandini to not do any work. She acts sweet and says she will get biscuits. He asks Radhika to get it and leaves. She asks Radhika to bring the biscuits for the kids, and hurry up. She smiles and leaves. Radhika gets biscuits and comes to kids. She sees Arjun laughing while narrating a story to the kids. Radhika smiles. Rana tells her that Arjun laughs very less, he met Nandini when he was 7 year old, they regard each other more than blood relations, Arjun can do anything for her, he can even die. Arjun turns and sees them.
The boy asks her to come in his team, as Arjun is making them lose. They ask her to make the broken house alone. Arjun says you chose wrong person, she just knows breaking, not joining. She says she has safe with her and sends him. Preeti comes to Nimmi and says she could not find anything. Nimmi asks about Riya and Priya. Preeti says she heard name and could not see face. Nimmi says you did not become smart being with me. They laugh. Nimmi asks Shivam to come, as his heroine will be waiting. Sarla sees them and calls her helper. He comes dressed as bear. She asks him to dance.
Shanti asks Kaushalya did she keep everything in safe. Kaushalya says yes, I gave you the keys. Shanti asks her is she not happy in Amit’s marriage and asks her to dance, she will sit with the safe. The ladies take Shanti. Raghav asks Ashok why did he call this animal costume men. Everyone dance. Gaura reminisces someone burning and gets asthma attack. She starts getting shortness of breath. Meera then throws her sari and runs to her room. Gaura’s grandson Shravan somes and is shocked to see her panicking. He sets off chunri’s fire with Vidya and asks where is gaura’s room. Vidya takes him to Gaura’s room. He starts searching her bag. Vidya asks if he is searching inhaler. He says yes. He then sees a locked box and goes towards it.
Vidya runs back to Gaura and starts pressing her palm. Gaura starts shouting in pain. Shravan also comes down and asks her to stay away from gaura. Vidya says she knows what she is doing and asks Gopi to bring eucalyptus oil. Gopi brings it. Vidya then asks her to apply it on tissue paper and keep it on her forehead. Gaura starts feeling good. Vidya says her friend also has astham and she told her about this technique. She apologizes gaura for paining her and says she did not have any other option to help her.
